Business Process Improvement Approach

This page explains my approach to business process improvement and how I work with clients to understand issues, identify what needs to change, and move things forward.

To see how this works in practice, visit Business Process Improvement & Delivery Experience. For background and context, see About.

My approach comes from hands-on delivery work in complex environments. I focus on understanding what you’re trying to achieve, how work is actually happening, and where time or effort is being lost.

From there, it’s about identifying what needs to change and helping you move forward in a practical, controlled way.

I work within real constraints: operational, organisational, and commercial. The aim is to make progress that holds, not apply theory or overcomplicate things.

I take the time to understand how your business actually works before getting involved. That includes what’s going on day to day, what’s getting in the way, and what you’re trying to achieve.

Inalyscope approach principles: outcomes-focused, proportionate governance, adaptable business process improvement

I use a structured, practical approach to understand what’s really happening before recommending change.

This typically involves:

  • Understanding context – what you’re trying to achieve and where things feel unclear or under pressure
  • Reviewing how work is set up – plans, reporting, roles, and governance
  • Looking at how work actually happens – where time is lost, decisions stall, or effort is duplicated

These inputs are brought together to form a clear, evidence-based view of the situation – not assumptions.

Focused on Outcomes, Not Ceremony

I focus on what actually needs to be delivered and why.

Structure matters, but only if it helps things move forward.

Bridging Business and Delivery

I turn business intent into something delivery teams can actually work with.

This leads to clearer direction, fewer misunderstandings, and better decisions.

Proportionate Governance

Governance should help, not slow things down.

I keep it clear and practical so people can see risks, make decisions, and stay in control.

Adaptable to Context

I work across different delivery approaches, including Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid.

The approach should fit the business, not the other way around.

Working in Practice

My role flexes based on what’s needed.

Sometimes that’s guidance, sometimes it’s hands-on support to keep things moving.
